Sleep is a precious resource that many people, particularly those with chronic illness or pain, don’t get enough of. If you’re a woman who has triumphed over your sleep problems, Laurie from A Chronic Dose wants to hear your story for an article she’s writing.
The National Sleep Foundation is an amazing resource for those still struggling with sleep. For information on sleep and headache disorders see Sleep, Sweet Elusive Sleep.

My husband and I went to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for my migraines and although they were wonderful, the medications they tried didn’t work long term. They referred me to a local doctor in Lewisville, Texas, who after 3 years, referred me to Dr. Joseph Casaly in Lewisville for Botox injections.
I have had migraines for the last 30 years, and have tried everything available, with no long term success. I think every time something works, it stops after a while. I have tried every sort of pharmaceutical medications, biofeedback, acupuncture, diet, dental surgery, TENS unit, and spinal decompression. The Botox, while a painful procedure, worked wonderfully for the first 3 months. The second 3 months, my migraines returned with full force almost daily. I just started Nadolol, and although I am having some slight vision problems, I am on my 8th day without a migraine. Each time I have hopes to have a richer life, and I continue to be positive. I am very surprised at the comments for Dr. Casaly’s practice. Each time I had an appointment, I have been seen by him and not his PA. I have always been able to get a reasonable time-line appointment with him. When I am in his office, I have been treated with the utmost care and concern by his staff, and when Dr. Casaly sees me, he is knowledgeable and focused on my treatment. He is not a folksy, talkative physician, and that is not what I am there for. He explains everything in detail, he allows me to answer his questions, waiting if I can’t come up with an answer right away. I feel that he is doing his best to make my life better, and I have seen enough neurologists over the years to be able to make an informed opinion. He has treated me and my husband with respect, he is not pompous, like many I’ve seen, and he listens and tries to help have less migraines. I am very pleased with me treatment.
I’ve had a daily headache with migraine features, my doctors debate what it is because no medicine has been able to help it. Lately it has really thrown off my sleep. I’ll start by saying that I’ve tried over the counter and prescription sleep aids. The OTC did not work and the prescription ones scare me. I started sleep fighting with my wife while taking AmbienCR and woke up in the hospital and almost wound up divorced. Anyway onto the current problem. For about 2 to 3 days I can only sleep for about 2-3 hours and then I’m wide awake. I try to go back to sleep, and although I can relax I cannot fall asleep. On the third or forth day I sleep for almost the entire day which I feel I need, but really irritates my wife who says I sleep all the time on those days. I guess she’s right, I do. I just wish I could spread the sleep out.
